Tobacco harm reduction (THR) is the concept that the health, financial and social harms of combustible tobacco use (ie. Smoking) can be mitigated through the use of Safer Nicotine Products that are manufactured to consumer standards and accessible to the general public.
THR has the potential to improve public health and save the cost of death and disease on society. If it is recognised and understood that some people are unwilling to and/or unable to stop smoking using the available Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT) and medications currently available.
The adult population has the right to know about and gain access to Safer Nicotine Products (SNP) such as e-cigarettes/electronic liquid vaporizers, Heat Not Burn tobacco vaporizers and snus as consumer accessible products that are legal via a risk proportionate regulatory scheme.
We believe that all stakeholders (smokers, users of SNPs, the general public, medical and health professionals, public health experts and government officials) have the right to know and/or are mandated to promote and support THR with facts, not perception.
